The Autumn Wind is a pirate
Blustering in from sea,
With a rollicking song, he sweeps along,
His face is weather beaten.
He wears a hooded sash,
With a silver hat about his head,
And a bristling black mustache.
He growls as he storms the country,
A villain big and bold.
And the trees all shake and quiver and quake,
As he robs them of their gold.
The Autumn Wind is a Raider,
Pillaging just for fun.
He'll knock you 'round and upside down,
And laugh when he's conquered and won.
It was January 19, 2003 and The Tennessee Titans were battling the Oakland Raiders for the AFC Title and right to play the Tampa Bay Bucs in the Super Bowl. Raider fans were filled with joy finally the Oakland Raiders were going back to the Super Bowl. I started here because it gets really ugly after that moment. Jon Gruden and his Bucs destroyed Oakland in the Super Bowl in 37. From 2003-2016 the Oakland Raiders would embark on one of the worst era of football you could ever see. During this era of embarrassment the raiders went 48-156 with no playoffs in site. Through it all one thing stayed true, Doctor Death, Raider Mort, and myself true Raider fans stood bye the team. I lived through watching Jamal Charles scoring 4 tds all on screen passes. Watch Nick Foles put up 400 yards, against the great defensive master mind of Dennis Allen. All the one and done Head Coaches, all the signings of 30 plus players who were done and getting that last money grab before retiring. After the death of Al Davis it looked even more bleak. But Mark Davis showed patience with his team and with General Manger Reggie Mckenzie. Which is why the Raiders are legit playoff contenders in 2017. His patience was tested with the local Oakland government. After the NFL decided that the Chargers and Rams not the Raiders would go to L.A. Oakland didn’t pounce on the Raiders and work out a stadium deal. They treated Mark Davis like a guy who was a failure and a guy who couldn’t get any big businesses deal done. The NFL is king in the sports world and the city of Oakland never figured that out. A new stadium brings jobs, brings sponsors, brings tourist, and brings a Super Bowl. The city of San Francisco got 13 Millions Dollars for from hosting the event. But yes I get it schools, infrastructure, are more important then football. I always believe that a deal can be made if both parties want to get things done. The city of Oakland that has already lost the Golden State Warriors to the city of San Francisco. Simply chose the Oakland A’s and their 81 homes dates over the Raiders and their 10 maybe 12. None the less the clock is ticking on the 2017 Raiders and their ties to the Bay. The Autumn Wind has finally blown these pirates out of the Oakland this time for good.
