Were at the All Star Break and half way through the Sports Year. Here are five quicks hits to get you through the break in the sports world.
I can’t express the impact that the Mike & the Mad Dog show had on my sports life. Mike Francesa and Chris Russo were the pioneers of Sports Talk radio. They were the best no question if you haven't heard about the journey of the show. You can check it out on ESPN at 8pm as a part of the 30 for 30 documentary series this Thursday.
Chick’s aren’t the only ones who dig the long ball. The 2017 MLB home run derby has a whole lot of Juice this year. You have Giancarlo Staton hoping to face Aaron Judge in the finals as these two monster sluggers will take center stage in Miami to see who will the be the king of the home run. You also have Yankee catcher Gary Sanchez, Dodgers Cody Bellinger and my pick for NL MVP Charlie Blackmon. You can catch all the action tonight on ESPN at 8 pm.
NBA Summer League has begun, and I can’t wait for it to be done. I’m sure the fans love it. The Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas has been sold out and NBA TV has shown record ratings. The NBA as always have done a great job marketing this league and the NBA free agency period. Seeing Jayson Tatum, Lonzo Ball and other rookies is cool but keep in mind that they are playing against players who are not NBA ready or good enough to make a league roster.
If you only watch one Tennis Tournament the championships of Wimbledon should be the one. Playing on grass, the serve and volley game is beautiful to watch. This is the number one tournament for many players this is the Chip they want more than any other. So the Drama and emotion is real and great to see.
Get outside it’s summer time. Take some time this week and enjoy your summer play ball with your friends or a son or daughter. On the East Coast we only get three months to enjoy the weather so take advantage. For the folks in New Jersey, Connecticut and Rhode Island have some great beaches. I understand your state beaches are for elected officials only.
