2017 Prediction 6-10

Washington Redskins

Who’s Under Center Kirk Cousins

Biggest Offseason Acquisitions- WR Terrelle Pryor(Browns), DL Jonathan Allen(Alabama), LB Ryan Andersen(Alabama)

Big Play Provider

On Offense- The Redskins have gone through a little bit of an offensive overhaul with WR Pierre Garcon and WR DeSean Jackson leaving for other teams and WR Terrelle Pryor coming to town.  Pryor should add the combination of size and speed that will provide a great target for Kirk Cousins.  TE Jordan Reed will also look to string together a productive year if he can stay healthy and the offensive line is returning all five starters and should provide great stability to the offense.

On Defense- This defense gave up a lot of yards last year and looked to plug holes during the draft at every level.  DL Jonathan Allen(Alabama), LB Ryan Andersen(Alabama) and CB Fabian Moreau(UCLA) were the first three picks in the 2017 draft for the skins and they will pair with DE Ryan Kerrigan who had 11 sacks last year and also talented veteran CB Josh Norman.  This defense should be faster and more athletic heading into the 2017 season.

Team Overview

This team has added talent on both sides of the ball and should be able to compete with everyone in their division on paper.  They look strong up front and if the new pieces on offense can gel together than this team will be ok.

The Bottom Line

Is it possible for Kirk Cousins to overlook the lack of confidence the orgnization has shown towards him and still be able to play at a high level and lead this team to the playoffs?  Even though the Redskins have added defensive talent and should be better on that side of the ball the success of this team rests on the arm and decision making of  Kirk Cousins.  When Team President Bruce Allen called the Quarterback Kirt instead of Kirk and showed that level of disrespect it made me think the writing may be on the wall for this team.  Cousins is playing for his future and you just don't get the feeling that Bruce Allen and his staff are pulling very hard for Cousins to succeed.

2017 Prediction 8-8

Philadelphia Eagles

Who’s Under Center Carson Wentz

Biggest Offseason Acquisitions- WR Alshon Jeffery(Bears), WR Torrey Smith(49ers), RB LaGarrette Blount(Patriots)

Big Play Provider

On Offense- If the Philadelphia Eagles wanted to ensure the progression of their young franchise Quarterback they sure made it clear with their off season moves.  Carson Wentz had a very productive rookie campaign and will look to continue to get better in 2017.  The additions of Wide Receivers Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith will be teamed up with Jordan Matthews to form a formidable trio of Wide Receivers for Wentz to throw the ball to.  In addition TE Zach Ertz was the leading pass catcher on the team in 2016 and will be returning as well.

On Defense- Question marks still abound for an Eagles defense that finished 12th in points allowed in 2016. Pro Bowl DL Fletcher Cox, LB Jordan Hicks and playmaking S Malcolm Jenkins are the cornerstones of this defense and will look to bring stability to a defensive team that has been inconsistent in the secondary and has had some turnover from last year. First round pick from Tennessee Derek Barnett will look to team up with Cox and with veteran DE Brandon Graham to add some speed and much needed pass rush to help assist a secondary that could take some time to gel together.

Team Overview

The Eagles are a talented group on offense which will provide some difficult matchups for defenses in the NFL.  This team has added some athleticism to the front 7 and could potentially make life difficutlt for opposing Quarterbacks.  New weapons on offfense could also keep the defense on the sidelines allow the Eagles to be in the playoff hunt all season.

The Bottom Line

Growth and health are the keys to the Philadelphia Eagles 2017 season. The growth of Carson Wentz and his ability to avoid a sophomore slump will allow the Eagles to get the ball down the field and put pressure on defenses with all their new weapons at the WR position.  As long as Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith can stay healthy this team will be in the thick of the wild card race in the NFC.
